A kinetic and digital installation
We surround ourselves with screens. These hypnotic objects offer both reward and punishment through our addictive relationships with them - relationships nurtured from infancy.
Carrot on Stick invites us to consider their animation of our everyday responses not only to trauma and loss but also to ecstatic moments: beauty, love, moral certainty and compassion.
The work explores the possibilities of transcendence, of being “still” in the moment, as we simultaneously witness the disintegration of the real.
The doll appears transfixed by the gently moving screen image. On the screen a swinging carrot reveals and conceals parts of the image. Periodically the screen goes blank. Each time this happens the doll robotically presses the green button to reactivate the screen. The red button is never pressed.
